“All I can say for certain is that Mountford is teetering on the edge of super stardom.” - Matthew Jukes, Acclaimed Wine Critic
Mountford have an enviable reputation as a fine Pinot Noir producer and this is the second vintage produced by winemaker Takahiro Koyama after long time Mountford winemaker CP Lin retired in 2013. Koyama worked under Lin for many years so the ship was always going to be in very safe hands, and the proof is in the bottle with this excellent 2015 release. It's a typically broody and savoury Mountford style with complex layers of dark fruits and a supple, really attractive finish with a nice line of creamy acidity. Brilliant Waipara buying.
The winery writes "Our signature Pinot Noir from our oldest vines is made by uniting all hte traditional elements of Terroir; land, climate, vines, people and culture. Hand harvested, developed in French-oak barrels and matured in the bottle. Creating a delightfully complex Pinot Noir with remarkable structure."
