Over the past 20 years Ant McKenzie has crafted fantastic wines for some of the biggest names in New Zealand wine - Dry River, Framingham, Mud House, Te Awa and Spy Valley. Now, under his own banner, he has created a multi-tier range of wines with Theory and Practice range pitched as "contemporary wines with a creative edge" .
This is lush and fulsome Hawkes Bay Pinot gris with ripe pear and citrus flavours underpinned with some nutty oak. Delicious, thoroughly modern wine. Recommended.
The winery writes "Rich notes of tropical fruits that span the spectrum from apricot to pineapple. There is also a lifted fl oral and citrus note, similar to orange blossom, which adds delicacy and fi neness. Some background vanilla and brioche notes from the Fuder add extra interest. The palate is full bodied and rich with a very plush texture. Palate fl avours of canned peach and suggestions of Turkish Delight all contribute interest. These layers of richness come mainly from perfectly ripened grapes allowing for some residual sugar in the wine, and the contribution of the one year old German Fuder and warm fermentation temperatures."
