19/20 | Candice Chow for Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
94 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
Elephant Hill only release this stunning wine when the quality is top notch and this 2017 release has undoubtedly reached that point. Vinted from merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and a spash of malbec, it's their take on a bordeaux blend. It's structured and elegant with black fruit flavours. It's drinking well now although this wine will really come into its own after a few years in the cellar.
Candice Chow writes "The bouquet is poise and harmonious with fragrances of violet, medicinal herbs, along with cassis, dark plums, cedar and tobacco lingers with good intensity. Full-bodied, the palate has good concentrated flavours of an amalgam of cassis, dark plums, red berries, along with violet and medicinal herbs, unveiling tobacco, cedar and oak spice detail. The fruit is juicy and fresh, lifted by lacy acidity, shows strength and vitality. Velvety fine-grained tannin extraction provides structure and backbone, immersing cedar and tobacco detail, lengthen the sustained finish in harmony."
Michael Cooper writes "Fragrant and full-bodied, it has concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, complex and savoury, and a well-rounded finish."
